Gators — we need to start our 2015 calendar year safely. Crossing the street might seem like a low risk activity to some but it is a safety concern for us at Stanley Park. We do not have a crossing guard and this means that students are not crossing the street safely when they cross Hickson to get to the other side of the street. Students must go to Hickson and River and cross at the lights in order for it to be considered a legal and safe place to cross.
Yesterday we had a student hit by a car on the way to school. Police, Fire and Ambulance were all dispatched and the student was taken to hospital. She is fine and although this happened on the way to school it did give us a chance to reflect on our Gators crossing the street at the end and beginning of the day.
Today our SRO, Constable Hill joined us at the end of the day to help give the message to parents and students that parents should be waiting on Hickson or Secord rather than across the street on Inlet Ave. Please have a conversation with your son or daughter and help them to understand the importance of crossing the street safely.
Thanks to Constable Hill for helping to deliver this message to our Gators today. Students, let’s work together to make Stanley as safe as possible for everyone. We are glad our Gator that was hit yesterday is back at school today, and doing well. Let’s learn from our past choices how to be collectively more safe in the future.
