April 30th, 2014
We will be instituting the Safe Welcome Procedure 3085 beginning on Tuesday May 20th. We are hoping that this will help us work out any “bugs” before September. Here are some highlights about the program.
SAFE WELCOME PROGRAM
- Initiated by Ontario Government in Dec 2012
- The program is being implemented by nearly all Boards in Ontario
- electronic card access is now operational at five external doors
- a camera has been installed at the main entrance on Hickson Drive
- a TV monitor has been installed in the main office
- the intercom at the door is connected to the office phone
- all external doors will be locked during school hours (8:30 – 3:00)
- All staff will have an access card
- Supply teachers will have a “Day Pass” card (school hours only)
- Portables will have 2 clip-on “Washroom Pass” cards (school hours only)
- Doors will be open until 8:30, then locked
- Students, parents or other visitors arriving after 8:30 will need to come to the front door, buzz and wait to be admitted; signs will be posted on each door with these instructions
- There may be times the office is briefly unattended; visitors may have to wait a few minutes
- If a student helper is answering the phones, they will NOT admit visitors, but will notify an adult
- If someone knocks on a door, students have been instructed NOT to open it, but to notify the nearest adult
Should you have any questions please contact the office. Thank you in advance for your support with the implementation of this Procedure.
